We've been fans of Microwave Dave Gallaher and the Nukes since they began their career. A true "power trio," they whip up a brand of hot rockin' boogie that's guaranteed to make you wanna dance! Recorded at the 2ND Street Music Hall in Gadsden, AL, in front of a highly-appreciative crowd, "Down South Nukin" is what these fellows are all about--lettin' the good times roll!!

Dave is joined by long-time bassist Rick Godfrey and drummer James Irvin. And, this set was produced by the legendary Johnny Sandlin, who's worked with the Allmans and Delbert McClinton, to name a few.

For sheer power and intensity, these three guys are tough to beat. Check out he primal-scream wail that Dave uses to open up "Road Runner," before proceeding to rock the joint from top to bottom! Dave also gets in some fine solos, too, on J. B. Huto's "20% Alcohol," and "Shot Gun Slim." Perhaps the set's premier piece, tho, is Dave's self-titled tribute to fellow Alabama guitarist "Ray Brand." It's played by Dave on his LoweBow, a cigar-box-shaped instrument of four strings, played with a slide, and Dave is arguably the master of this instrument!

We had three other favorites, too. It's for certain that Dee Clark's "Hey Little Girl" NEVER rocked this hard! Dave does a great job on "Hip Shakin," another cut made for dancin!' And, on the hilarious Young Jesse tune "It Don't Happen No More," Dave's gone-to- church opening and rapid-fre licks are the perfect complement to he cool lyrics to this song.

At the end of the night, it's a wonder that there is not a pool of molten metal at Dave's feet, as he literally melts the strings off a fretboard! Do yourself a favor and check out Microwave Dave and the Nukes and "Down South Nukin" for some real-deal blues!! Until next time...Sheryl and Don Crow
